An Open Letter....

....to TonyBigCharles.
Tony,
You don't know me from Adam and, since I'm not linking to your blog, you might not ever see this, but I felt compelled to write you this letter in an open forum, for all to see.
Like I said, you don't know me, I'm just an old poker blogger who happened upon your blog one day not very long ago and now, I cannot stop reading it, because, it's a freaking train wreck, waiting to happen. Do you have any idea why you have as many followers as you do Tony? It's because every single one of them knows that the train is coming down the track the wrong way and there's gonna be wreck pretty soon. They want to see it. As much as it disgusts them (and me) they cannot turn their head away because we all know that the wreck is coming.
Do you understand why the folks in Vegas are willing to comp you rooms Tony? It's not because you're a great guy or because of your winning personality. It's not because they feel sorry for you or because they think you need a break. It's because, sooner or later, you're going to implode and lose your entire stake and they want it to be at their casino. If you do not understand this, somebody needs to help you open your eyes.
What you should do, immediately, is find a place to live with the money that you have left. Once you've determined where that will be, get off your ass and go find a job.
I know, this sounds harsh to a free spirit, a gambler, if you will, but Tony, it's high time you faced facts, you're a shitty gambler. You're old enough now that you should be well-established at a job and making decisions regarding your future, not deciding on the baked potato and bitching that they don't have mashed potatoes at the hand out line.
You can find a decent apartment in a lot of places for $400 a month. Yes, they want a deposit, usually first and last month's rent, but you know what, that's about $1200, leaving you with plenty to survive for a while.
The next part won't be easy. You have to get your ass out of bed on a daily basis and look for a job. There are jobs out there, even for unemployable folks like you. Now, you probably won't like the jobs that are available to you, but you know what, I've worked at the same place for 15 years and I really don't like it all that well. I'd rather be floating around the States, playing poker and gambling, like you, however, I like to eat on a regular basis. I also like sleeping in my bed, by my wife, with my kids just down the hall.
It's time to grow up and be a man and stop with the childish games. I've read that you are autistic and I feel for you, I really do, but it's time to be a man Tony. Of course, I'll keep reading of your travels, successes and failures, just like all your other followers, because we all know how it's going to turn out. I only hope that you can get off the track when you see the light at the other end of the tunnel headed your way.
Good luck to you.

That's the comment I want to leave for TBC, but whenever I get halfway through it, I realize that it is hopeless to try to offer advice.
You are 100% right. It's trainwreck reading and its incredibly compelling stuff for guys like you and me who live relatively normal, responsible lives. Eventually, it will have to come to some firey crash, but until then, there is really nothing that can be done from an outsider's perspective.
The part that amazes me the most is how some intelligent bloggers will get wrapped up in his drama. It's tempting to want to help, but that's a trip down a rabbit's hole that I'd rather avoid. - At 11:09 AM, SirFWALGMan said...
